HOLS Academic Testing and Assessment FAQs

Find quick answers about HOLS educational assessments and learning evaluations and how they support student growth.

What does an academic evaluation involve?

We offer several types of evaluations based on each client’s needs. Every assessment starts with an intake questionnaire and a review of developmental and educational history. On assessment day, testing lasts about 4½ hours and includes academic, processing, and play-based activities. We use a mix of diagnostic, screening, and observational tools to understand learning strengths and challenges—many children even say it feels fun!

My child has already been tested. Do we really need more testing?

We understand—it can feel repetitive. However, we need to see how your child learns and processes information firsthand. Our assessments are customized to each student and focus on how the brain receives, processes, stores, and retrieves information. This helps us build a clear learning profile and make targeted recommendations. While we review prior reports to avoid overlap, an updated assessment is required for admission to any HOLS program.

What if my child can’t finish the assessment in one session?

We schedule a three-hour block but adjust as needed. If your child becomes tired or stressed, the examiner will stop early and schedule another session to complete testing comfortably.

What is the cost of an assessment?

An initial assessment costs $685 on weekdays or $785 on Saturdays. A $100 non-refundable deposit holds your appointment, with the balance due on the testing day. The fee includes testing, scoring, report writing, and a two-hour consultation to review results and recommendations.

How do we get the results of an assessment?

After testing, we schedule a parent consultation to review results and recommendations. Both parents are encouraged to attend. Because the discussion covers detailed and sensitive information, children should not attend unless they’re in high school and wish to participate.

What is the cancellation policy for assessments?

We have reserved time specifically for your assessment. If you need to cancel or reschedule your assessment, please call us immediately. Assessments that are cancelled with less than 48 hours will not receive a refund of the deposit. If you decide to schedule a second assessment date and have canceled the initial assessment with less than 48 hours’ notice, you will be asked to pay an additional $100 deposit to hold the new assessment date.
