Our Experience

We will always be thankful for HOLS! Peyton was first assessed by HOLS in 2015 at the age of 10.  They walked with us every step of the way as we learned how to process new information and advocate for Peyton. He benefited greatly from his sessions at HOLS, and became a new child in just a matter of weeks. His confidence blossomed. I will never forget the day he walked out of HOLS and said “they helped me to like myself”.

Here we are 10 years later, Peyton is walking into his first year of college! With the help of HOLS and our most recent assessment, he has ADA accommodations in place to help him be successful.

The interventions, therapy, and training that HOLS provided for us has changed our lives and given Peyton opportunities that are not defined by his challenges.

Our Experience

From the very first meeting, we immediately felt right at home. Laura, the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and patient. She gave us hope for our son’s future, and that has made all the difference.

He’s now better able to manage his stress and anxiety, regulate his emotions, and understand what dyslexia is and how it affects him. This self-awareness has helped him face challenges with more confidence and resilience. His self-esteem has improved so much, and he’s finally approaching reading—and learning in general—with a positive attitude.

Finding this service has been a true gift for our family, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with a struggling child.  Our only wish is that we had found it sooner.

Reading Solutions
  • My son has been part of this incredible center since 1st grade, and it’s been amazing to watch his growth and progress. As a former educator, I had to homeschool Valentine during kindergarten—not by choice, but when schools shut down—and I noticed he had difficulty concentrating. When I reached out to HOLS about potential ADHD, I was so grateful to learn that what he was dealing with was severe dyslexia. It turned out some of his attention issues were actually coping mechanisms for the struggles he had with reading and spelling. This helped us get him the help he needed! Thanks to their guidance, we were able to start early intervention immediately.

  • We knew something wasn’t right and that we needed help for our daughter. We’d tried a wide variety of things, but nothing seemed to be what she needed. Once we found Hand On Learning, that all changed, and we immediately felt good about the path we were on.  All the instructors have been lovely and she enjoys her time there.  Beyond that, she has made huge strides in her reading. She feels so much more comfortable at school and has so much more confidence overall.  I will forever be grateful for Hands on Learning – they were exactly what we needed!

  • We are incredibly grateful for the support and guidance Hands On Learning Solutions has provided to Reese. Through her time with you, we’ve gained a much deeper understanding of her diagnosis of Orthographic Dyslexia and how best to support her.

Reese has truly enjoyed her experience and formed a meaningful connection with her clinician. That relationship has been instrumental in increasing her enthusiasm for learning and her willingness to attend sessions.

We’ve seen noticeable improvements in her spelling and handwriting, and we often catch her applying the skills she’s learned during her time at Hands On. Thank you for making such a positive difference in her learning journey.

Understanding Solutions
  • The entire Hands On Learning Team has been amazing! They helped Emily regain her confidence and quiet her mind so she could absorb the lessons during her sessions. The specialists have always met Emily “where she was” on any given day. This type of acceptance and nonjudgment feels like a miracle in our current world. She is currently in Middle School and earning straight A’s for her 3rd year in a row! The staff understands how my 2E child’s brain processes information. They have helped her believe in herself and that all things are possible – I am forever grateful!

  • My name is Markus, and I go to Hands On Learning Solutions. I had to write about a person who has had a significant impact on my life for a school assignment, and decided to write about Mr. Jeff. Mr. Jeff works at Hands On Learning Solutions. HOLS is a place where you come to fix your learning disabilities. Mr. Jeff is my teacher and has helped me with my learning disabilities. The kind of things I do there are very simple tasks that connect neural pathways and teach my brain to work better. Some of the tasks involve describing objects without hand movements, such as talking on the phone or reading words printed in different colors. Then Mr. Jeff makes it even harder by making me do it on the beat of a metronome. The results of this learning are not just about fixing disabilities; they also make me more confident, energetic (in a good way), and happy. The way he makes rules fair and explains things is so helpful, especially when my sessions are long. He does a great job of keeping things interesting. Hands On Learning Solutions and Mr. Jeff especially have helped me so much, and I am so glad I met him.

  • The progress Hunter has made has been nothing short of amazing. Since starting at Hands On Learning when he was 7 years old, we’ve seen incredible growth — not just academically, but in his everyday life. The dedication, support, and personalized care the team provides is unmatched. They don’t just talk the talk — they back it up with real, noticeable improvements. I’m beyond thankful we found Hands On Learning. It has truly been a blessing for our family and a turning point for Hunter’s development.

  • I wanted to let you guys know that Corbin has graduated 7th grade and he graduated with a 3.5 GPA and he received the Presidential Award for Academic Achievement!  This is a huge accomplishment for him and it is due partly to his hard work and determination, but also to the many individuals supporting him over including HOLS which has played a major role in helping with his academic achievements. Thank you to his specialists at HOLS, we appreciate you and what you do and how you helped make learning “fun” for Corbin. They provided him with tools that allowed him to succeed in an environment that is difficult for his brain to navigate!  Thank you all-we appreciate you!!

Writing Solutions
  • Our daughter, Zoey, has been part of the Hands On Learning Solutions family for the last three years. We have seen huge improvements during this time with her reading, writing, and memorization skills. Zoey has more confidence and was able to memorize a poem for the school speech meet this year! HOLS has given her the help she needed for learning in a fun and positive environment.

  • We brought our son Ian to HOLS when he was 7 years old. Ian had been struggling with learning his letters and sounds for a few years, as well as recognizing numerals and understanding the quantities they represented. We had also noticed that despite his natural athleticism he had difficulty catching and dribbling a ball, sitting up for long periods of time and using his dining utensils and writing instruments.

After a thorough assessment, Laura provided us with a detailed program to address our concerns about Ian. Because we were a homeschooling family, Laura even worked with us for over two years to provide regular consultations for administering a home-based program for Ian. I learned so much during this time, and really felt equipped to be a better guide to my son with learning differences. Some of the interventions included integrating Ian’s primitive reflexes through rhythmic movements, using the Barton method for reading and spelling, and a math curriculum that Laura and some of her staff have developed, as well as many other modalities.

Over the past 6 years, Hands on Learning Solutions has shown up for us time and time again. We have utilized the home-based consultations during some seasons, and relied on several hours a week of tutoring on-site during other seasons. Laura and the staff at Hands On Learning Solutions have consistently exceeded our expectations. Laura has a true gift for seeing the needs of the student; her commitment to helping young people fulfill their potential is admirable and inspiring. The staff is well-trained and shares her passion for working with the kids. Ian is 13 now and has made leaps and bounds of progress with both reading and math, and no longer struggles with his early coordination challenges. We are so grateful to HOLS for coming alongside us in our educational journey!
